A Nakajima typewriter

A Nakajima typewriter with the old portuguese keyboard

All is a model of the Nakajima company, Japan. This small typewriter works perfectly. Pay attention to the old portuguese keyboard, used in Portugal before 1974. The HCESAROP made actually more sense for the language than Qwerty or Azerty, since the A, the most used letter in Portuguese, was in the center, and so on.

In Lisbon it is still possible to find typewriters with the old keyboard.

And there is an repair office, probably the last one, run by the accurate and efficient Mr. Tavares, in rua São João da Praça, number 100, near the cathedral, in the  heart of the old Alfama quarter. Tlf: 21 887 17 27.
